Transmettre et évoluer avec l’esprit du jardin : ethnographie de la construction d’un collectif jardinier sédunois à travers ses transformations, (re)négociations et ancrages utopiques

Ce mémoire en anthropologie propose une enquête ethnographique des enjeux et dynamiques entourant la concrétisation et la pérennisation d’un jardin collectif urbain dans la ville de Sion, chef-lieu du canton du Valais, en Suisse romande. Constitué de parcelles individuelles et communes, cet espace est entretenu et cultivé depuis une dizaine d’année par un collectif hétérogène et fluctuant, guidé par des principes de permaculture, d’écologie, d’entraide, de mise en commun et de collégialité. Afin de comprendre ce qui permet une inscription dans le temps d’un fonctionnement marqué par une forte informalité, une structuration minimale, une instabilité des engagements et des présences, mais également une potentialité d’expérimentation et de découverte, ce mémoire est structuré en trois axes. Le premier explore comment se constitue et se renouvelle ce collectif en étudiant sa composition, les motivations qui le traversent ainsi que les profils de ses membres. Le deuxième analyse les (re)négociations et adaptations inscrivant le collectif jardinier dans un mouvement et dans des temporalités multiples. Finalement, le troisième tente de saisir ce qui constitue le socle de l’attachement des individus à ce jardin et ce qui les pousse à s’y investir corporellement, sensoriellement et émotionnellement, au travers de pratiques banales et ordinaires. En filigrane, ce travail pose la question de ce que nécessitent, impliquent et engagent la mise en pratique et l’implantation durables de projets portant en eux des dimensions utopiques.

This anthropology dissertation offers an ethnographic investigation of the issues and dynamics surrounding the creation and perpetuation of a collective urban garden in the town of Sion, capital of the canton of Valais, in French-speaking Switzerland. Made up of individual and communal plots, this space has been maintained and cultivated for the past ten years by a heterogeneous and fluctuating collective, guided by the principles of permaculture, ecology, mutual aid, pooling and collegiality. In order to understand what makes it possible to inscribe in time an project marked by a strong informality, a minimal structuring, an instability of commitments and presences, but also a potentiality of experimentation and discovery, this dissertation is structured in three axes. The first explores how this collective is constituted and renewed, by studying its composition, the motivations that run through it, and the profiles of its members. The second analyzes the (re)negotiations and adaptations that set the gardening collective in motion and in multiple temporalities. Finally, the third attempts to grasp what constitutes the basis of individuals' attachment to this garden, and what drives them to invest in it physically, sensorially and emotionally, through ordinary, banal practices. In a way, this work raises the question of what is required, implied and committed to the sustainable implementation of projects with utopian dimensions.
