The mononuclear cations of the general formula [(η<sup>6</sup>-arene)RuCl(pdpt)]+ (pdpt = 5,6-diphenyl-3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine; arene = C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>6</sub> (<b>1</b>); C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>Me (2); <i>p</i>-Pr<sup><i>i</i></sup>C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>4</sub>Me (3); C<sub>6</sub>Me<sub>6</sub> (<b>4</b>)) have been synthesised from 5,6-diphenyl-3-(pyridine-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (pdpt) and the corresponding chloro complexes [(η<sup>6</sup>-C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>6</sub>)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl] <sub>2</sub>, [(η<sup>6</sup>-C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>Me)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl]<sub>2</sub>, [(η<sup>6</sup><i>p</i>-Pr<sup><i>i</i></sup>C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>4</sub>Me)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl]<sub>2</sub> and [(η<sup>6</sup>-C<sub>6</sub>Me<sub>6</sub>)Ru(μ-Cl)Cl]<sub>2</sub>, respectively. The X-ray crystal structure analyses of [<b>1</b>][PF<sub>6</sub>] • (C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>6</sub>)<sub>2.5</sub> and [<b>2</b>][PF<sub>6</sub>] • (CH<sub>3</sub>CN)<sub></sub>2 reveal a typical piano-stool geometry around the metal centre and in the crystal packing a complexed networks of intermolecular interactions.
