Ma thèse <i>Familie erzählen. Vererbung in Literatur und Wissenschaft, 1850-1900 (Raconter la famille. Hérédité dans la littérature et les sciences, 1850-1900)</i> s’occupe de la question comment la narration de la famille, la forme et la structure de cette narration, ont été changées par l’apparition d’un concept biologique de la famille qui était lui-même un produit du discours scientifique sur l’hérédité. Je désigne cette nouvelle forme de la narration familiale qui s’établit dès les années cinquante du dix-neuvième siècle en tant qu’histoire de la famille bourgeoise. Pour deux raisons on peut qualifier une histoire de la famille biologique comme bourgeoise. D’un côté, la famille bourgeoise n’avait – dans sa représentation – aucune dimension généalogique avant l’existence d’un concept scientifique de l’hérédité. De l’autre côté, l’histoire de la famille héréditaire est la manifestation spécifiquement bourgeoise de l’histoire de la famille qui était une prérogative de l’aristocratie. À côté de la psychiatrie, de la médecine, de l’hygiène sociale et de la généalogie, c’est avant tout la littérature qui crée un rapport entre le nouveau concept de l’hérédité et une nouvelle compréhension de la famille et qui lie la famille biologique avec l’espace social. L’histoire de la famille bourgeoise est étroitement liée au savoir des sciences physiques et naturelles de l’hérédité., My thesis <i>Familie erzählen. Vererbung in Literatur und Wissenschaft, 1850-1900 (Narrating family. Heredity in Literature and Science, 1850-1900)</i> examines the question how form and structure of family narrations were altered by the apparition of a biological concept of the family. This biological concept of the family was by itself a produce of the scientific discourse about heredity, which emerged in the midst of the 19th century in several sciences. To this new form of family narration I refer to as the bourgeois family history – bourgeois due to two reasons: On the one hand, the bourgeois family hasn’t possessed – in its representations – a genealogical dimension prior to the existence of a scientific concept of heredity. On the other hand, a family history, structured by the laws of heredity, is the specific bourgeois version of family history, which, up to this point, had been a prerogative of aristocracy. Alongside psychiatry, medicine, social hygiene and genealogy, it was literature that linked the new biological concept of heredity to a new understanding of family and the family, conceived as a biological unit, with the realm of the social. The history of the bourgeois family is intricately related to the scientific knowledge of heredity.
