Résumé
Started in 2012, the PEON project has been conducted in order to have a better knowledge of both the primary school students' skills in terms of spelling practices and their teachers' experiences and methods. Therefore, we collected different data including interviews with teachers, observations of spelling activities and written materials of 10 years old school children of the same class (homework notebooks, rough books, dictations, etc.). We considered that the variety of school contexts, teachers and also the variety of written productions would help access to a variety of practices regarding spelling. <br> In this presentation, we will focus on the observations and on audio recordings of spelling activities. In particular, we'll discuss the fact that in 8 classes on 9, the teachers chose to invite us for the spelling of a text, a very traditional activity at school in France. This activity appears then as a norm, but is also very ritualized. The description of these activities, their comparison, reveal the components of this ritual, but also some tensions.
