    Exercer la sĆ©miotique sans sā€™intĆ©resser au monde de la vie, cā€™est condamner lā€™analyse Ć  lā€™insignifiance, car le sens est cette direction indĆ©terminĆ©e que tracent nos vies, individuelles et collectives, depuis que nous existons. Les textes et les objets qui composent le monde portent en consĆ©quence tous, bien quā€™Ć  des degrĆ©s dā€™Ć©vidence variables, lā€™empreinte dā€™une multitude de vies humaines. Dans sa foulĆ©e, la vie humaine marque ainsi les textes et les objets qui croisent son chemin, ainsi que les activitĆ©s quā€™elle accomplit pour parvenir Ć  ses fins et, ce faisant, persister dans son cours. Sur sa lancĆ©e, elle confĆØre Ć  ces existences et ces expĆ©riences une forme symbolique, celle de lā€™idĆ©e quā€™elle dessine, malgrĆ© elle, de sa propre persĆ©vĆ©rance. Cā€™est ce parcours, ou ce rĆ©cit ā€“ car la vie, Ć  travers ses pĆ©ripĆ©ties, Ć©crit aussi un rĆ©cit ā€“, que cette thĆØse vise Ć  retracer en vue de dĆ©finir la forme de vie, cette notion introduite par Algirdas Julien Greimas, au dĆ©but des annĆ©es 1990, dans les Ć©tudes sĆ©miotiques, et qui, aujourdā€™hui, interpelle les sĆ©mioticiens dĆ©sireux dā€™inscrire leurs recherches dans le champ des sciences de la culture, mais sans clairement savoir ce quā€™il retourne de cette notion aux contours sinueux comme le sens. Instaurant le dialogue entre les sĆ©mioticiens de lā€™Ć‰cole de Paris qui se sont intĆ©ressĆ©s Ć  la question, ce texte se propose de reconsidĆ©rer le statut existentiel des formes de vie, de dĆ©crire comment elles Ć©mergent dans lā€™expĆ©rience, de typologiser leurs variĆ©tĆ©s, enfin, dā€™expliquer comment, Ć  terme, elles parviennent Ć  colorer de leurs Ć©thiques les milieux humains. Doing semiotics without paying attention to the realm of life amounts to condemn analyses to insignificance, because meaning is this indeterminate direction that our individual and collective lives always trace. Texts and objects of the world therefore all bear the imprint of a multitude of human lives, albeit with varying degrees of evidence. In its wake, human life thus marks texts and objects that cross its path, as well as the activities it carries out to achieve its goals and, in so doing, to persist in its course. In its track, human life gives these existences and experiences a symbolic form, that of the idea it draws of its own perseverance. Itā€™s precisely this path, or this narrative because life, through its adventures, also writes a narrative, that this thesis aims to recount in order to define the concept of form of life introduced by Algirdas Julien Greimas in semiotic studies, at the beginning of the 1990s, and which, today, challenges semioticians wishing to place their research in the field of cultural studies, but without clearly knowing what returns from this notion as sinuous as meaning. Encouraging a dialogue between the semioticians of the Paris School Semiotics who have investigated the topic, this dissertation proposes to reconsider the existential status of forms of life, to describe how they emerge from experience, to provide a typology of their varieties and, finally, to explain how, in the long run, they succeed in colouring human worlds with their ethics.
