Abstract
Two case studies of francophone youth in Ontario, as they transition from French first-language secondary schools to Ontario universities, reveal the impact of the social and academic linguistic realities in bilingual and Anglophone university settings on these students' linguistic identity and their construction or maintenance of their French language academic competencies. This data is drawn from an 18-month critical reflexive ethnography of 15 Ontario French-first language high school graduates' experience of transition from high school to university, and their student experience in higher education.
