Abstract
In this paper, we present a study of the interactional mechanisms involved in the construction of a peer group in the context of a first professional encounter at an international wine fair. In this single case study, we examine a particular interaction between French and Italian winegrowers, while focusing on the ways in which a shared masculine heterosexual identity emerges throughout affiliative practices, more precisely sexual jokes, shared laugh and storytelling sequences. This paper follows the conversation analysis perspective and the line of research of linguistic studies on gender performance. Moreover, the analysis takes into account the articulation between gender identities and other categorizations that the participants mobilize in these sequences (age, nationality).
