Abstract
This article focuses on linguistic researchers working on a sensitive field, and the constitution of an expert discourse. This article shows that a translation process is always necessary when scientific discourse is transformed into expert discourse, due to a number of research assumptions. The general purpose of the paper is to develop a better understanding of the transformation processes of scientific discourse into expert discourse, based on a review of the positions that the researcher can adopt with respect to his/her conception of language in relation with the social world. Finally, this paper analyses the impact of the stances taken by the researcher on the relationship with social actors, and questions the place given to their competence and linguistic skills in expert discourse.
