L’application de la loi linguistique dans la politique hospitalière et le réseau des urgences à Bruxelles-Capitale: équilibrer l’offre et la demande d’une ville plurilingue et multiculturelle

The linguistic situation in Brussels hospitals has been the subject of much debate and research. A brief overview of the works which have been published over the last thirty years has made it possible to classify their objectives and arguments. The first part of the article sets out the statutes and legal framework under which hospitals operate, the language laws and the way in which they are monitored. The second part presents the results of a study, which consisted of recording the comments, experiences and remarks of Dutch-speaking general practitioners and their patients regarding their contacts with hospitals in the Brussels-Capital Region.
