L'occupazione del Mendrisiotto in epoca romana attraverso lo studio di tre dimore

Cette recherche, conduite en collaboration avec le Service archéologique du Canton Tessin, avait le but de jeter une nouvelle lumière sur trois riches complexes d’époque romaine découverts au début du XX siècle. Si le site de San Pietro di Stabio Fondo Realini, qui a vu fouiller Ch. Simonett, semble voir son apogée entre I et II s. ap. J.-C., quand une riche villa privée trouve place sur la colline, différente est la situation des deux autres demeures analysées. À Mendrisio Santa Maria in Borgo ainsi qu’à Morbio Inferiore Zona Mura trouvent en effet place deux riches et amples complexes qui, après un premier essor respectivement à l’époque sévérienne et au I s. ap. J.-C., subissent au courant du IV s. ap. J.-C., des importants travaux de restauration sous le signe de la monumentalisation typique des villae de l’Antiquité tardive.

Abstract:
This research, carried out in collaboration with the Archaeological Service of Canton Ticino, aimed to shed new light on three rich roman complexes discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. While the site of San Pietro di Stabio Fondo Realini, excavated by Ch. Simonett, seems to have reached its peak between 1st and 2nd century AD, when a rich private villa was built on the hill, the situation of the other two residences analysed is different. In Mendrisio Santa Maria in Borgo and in Morbio Inferiore Zona Mura there are in fact two rich and ample complexes which, after a first rise in the Severian period and in the 1st century AD respectively, underwent important restoration works during the 4th century AD, under the sign of the monumentalization typical of the villas of Late Antiquity.
