Abstract
The cationic complexes Ru2[(?6-p-MeC6H4iPr)2(?-SC6H4Br-4)3]+ (I) and Rh2[(?5-C5Me5)2(?-SC6H4Br-4)3]+ (II) are available in quant. yields from the reaction of p-HSC6H4Br with [Ru(p-MeC6H4iPr)Cl2]2 and [Rh(C5Me5)Cl2]2, resp. I and II undergo triple Suzuki coupling with oligophenylene boronic acids, ArB(OH)2 (Ar = Ph, 3-biphenyl, 1-naphthyl), to give [Ru2(?6-p-MeC6H4iPr)2{?-S(p-C6H4)nC6H5}3]+ and [Rh2(?5-C5Me5)2{?-S(p-C6H4)nC6H5}3]+ (e.g., n = 1; III), resp. The star-like trisbromo complexes are potential precursors for the insertion of dinuclear organometallic entities into the main chain of conjugated mols. I-III were characterized by x-ray crystallog.
