Abstract
Nowadays newspapers readers are becoming users engaged in the news production cycle and often are an
important asset in keeping the news ''alive'' even many days after the first publication online. Media
scholars, journalists and editors recognize the importance of participatory journalism and interactive
services. However, not a lot of research has examined the economic value of user interaction, and the
extent to which it may represent not only a participatory form of democratic discourse but also foster
publishing companies’ interactive powered business axis. This study reports research on the economic
value of user interactions with comments on professionally crafted news.
