Abstract
Pyridyl-functionalized melamine (MEpy) and barbituric acid (BApy) derivatives have been designed to generate rosette-type structures with multiple coordination sites. The introduction of a pyridyl group on both components (MEpy and BApy) allows coordination of metals at the periphery of the (MEpy)3·(BApy)3 rosette. Dichloro para-cymene ruthenium and dichloro pentamethylcyclopentadienyl rhodium units were inserted to generate the heteronuclear rosettes, (MEpyRu)3·(BApyRh)3 and (MEpyRh)3·(BApyRu)3, respectively. Both rosettes were characterized by spectroscopic methods and their behavior in solution was studied.
