Subordination und Insubordination in der Geschichte der ob-Sätze des Deutschen

Ce travail de thèse est une étude des propositions introduites par ob « si » en allemand, accordant une attention particulière à leurs utilisations subordonnées et indépendantes (insubordination). Il approche les types de propositions du point de vue de la grammaire de construction et considère que les phénomènes d’insubordination représentent le mouvement des unités propositionnelles du domaine fonctionnel des propositions mineures vers celui des propositions principales. La détermination des contextes pertinents pour le développement de ces types de propositions ainsi que les relations synchroniques et diachroniques entre les propositions introduites par ob sont au cœur de ce travail.
Outre la discussion du placement théorique et de la description des phénomènes d’insubordination en allemand contemporain (Ch. 1–3), ce travail comprend des études de corpus sur le gothique (Ch. 4), le vieux haut allemand (Ch. 5), le haut allemand précoce (Ch. 7), ainsi qu’une discussion sur les types de propositions dans le système grammatical en moyen haut allemand (Ch. 6).
Les analyses ont révélé que différents types de clauses insubordonnées avec ob se sont développés dans différents contextes au cours de l’histoire de la langue allemande. L’identification des contextes de développement pertinents montre que tant la complexité de la relation syntaxique ou syntagmatique que la relation fonctionnelle entre la proposition introduite par ob et les matrices potentielles peuvent être importantes pour les processus d’insubordination (Ch. 8).

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den ob-eingeleiteten Satztypen des Deutschen mit besonderem Interesse für ihr subordiniertes und eigenständiges, d. h. insubordinates, Vorkommen. Die Arbeit geht von einer konstruktionsgrammatischen Auffassung von Satztypen aus und betrachtet Insubordinationsphänomene aus diachroner Perspektive daher als Bewegungen von satzwertigen Zeichen aus dem funktionalen Bereich der Nebensätze in die der Hauptsätze. Die Ermittlung der relevanten Entwicklungskontexte solcher Satztypen sowie die synchronen und diachronen Verhältnisse zwischen den ob-eingeleiteten Satztypen stehen somit im Kern der Arbeit.
Neben der Auseinandersetzung mit der theoretischen Einordnung der Satztypen und der Beschreibung der Insubordinationsphänomene in der Gegenwartssprache (Kap. 1–3) besteht die Arbeit aus Korpusuntersuchungen zum Gotischen (Kap. 4), dem Althochdeutschen (Kap. 5) und dem Frühneuhochdeutschen (Kap. 7) sowie einer Besprechung des Systems des Mittelhochdeutschen (Kap. 6).
In der deutschen Sprachgeschichte können verschiedene Arten von ob-eingeleiteten insubordinaten Satztypen identifiziert werden, die in Zusammenhang mit unterschiedlichen Entwicklungskontexten entstanden sind. Die Bestimmung der relevanten Entwicklungskontexte zeigt, dass sowohl die Komplexität der syntaktischen oder syntagmatischen Verbindung als auch die funktionale Verbindung von ob-Sätzen zu potenziellen Matrizen für Insubordinationsprozesse wichtig sein können (Kap. 8).

The present work is an investigation of the clauses in German introduced by ob ‘if’ with particular consideration of their subordinate and independent (insubordinate) uses. The work takes on a Construction Grammar based approach to clause types and considers insubordination phenomena to represent the movement of clausal units from the functional domain of minor clauses to that of major clauses. The ascertainment of the contexts relevant for the development of such clause types as well as the synchronic and diachronic relations between the clauses introduced by ob are at the core of this work.
Besides the discussion of the theoretical placement and the description of insubordination phenomena in present-day German (Ch. 1–3), the work consists or corpus studies of Gothic (Ch. 4), Old High German (Ch. 5), Early New High German (Ch. 7) as well as a discussion of the system in Middle High German (Ch. 6).
Different types of insubordinate clause with ob can be found as having developed in connection with different contexts throughout the history of the German language. The identification of the relevant developmental contexts shows that both the complexity of the syntactic or syntagmatic relationship as well as the functional relationship between the ob-clause and potential matrices can be important for processes of insubordination (Ch. 8).
