Résumé
The electrochem. properties of a fullerene-ferrocene liq. crystal are reported. The electrochem. study was carried out under strictly aprotic conditions: a total of seven redn. peaks were detected in the neg. potential region, and two oxidn. peaks in the pos. potential one. Comparison of the data with those obtained from suitable model compds. (i.e., analogous fullerene- or ferrocene-free materials ) has allowed the assignment of all redn. and oxidn. steps. The CV study evidenced the occurrence of a fast follow-up chem. reaction coupled to the 3rd (at 25°) or 4th (at -60°) redn. of either for the fullerene-ferrocene liq. crystal or compd. contg. fullerene but not ferrocene. Such a reaction, presumably related to the cleavage of one of the cyclopropane bonds, is quant. reversed upon reoxidn. Conversely, under bulk electrolysis conditions (2nd redn.), the species undergo the retro-Bingel reaction, i.e. the irreversible removal of the bis(alkoxycarbonyl)methano adducts to give the parent C60.
